FAQ
What does the "100%" and "133%" insulation level mean for 8kV cables?
100% Level: For systems with rapid fault clearing (<1 minute). 133% Level: For systems where faults may persist up to 1 hour. This requires thicker insulation. For an 8kV system, specifying a 133% insulation level increases reliability.
Can I use an unshielded cable for 8kV?
Generally, no. Above 2kV (and certainly at 8kV), shielding is critical to manage electric field stress and prevent safety hazards. Unshielded cables at this voltage are rare and only used in highly specific, controlled environments (like certain jumpers) with specialized insulators.
Is it safe to bury 8kV cables directly in the ground?
Only if the cable is rated for Direct Burial. These cables typically feature a robust outer jacket (HDPE or PVC) and often include armor (SWA or Interlocked Armor) for mechanical protection against rocks and digging.
