FAQ
What is the difference between FG16 and the old FG7 cable?
Compliance. FG16 is the modern replacement for FG7 (and FG7OR). While both use high-performance HEPR insulation (G16), only FG16 complies with the European CPR (Construction Products Regulation) fire safety class Cca-s3,d1,a3. You must use FG16 for all new permanent installations.
What does the "G16" HEPR insulation offer?
Thermal performance. HEPR (High Modulus Ethylene Propylene Rubber) allows for a continuous operating temperature of 90°C, compared to 70°C for PVC. This gives FG16 cable a higher current carrying capacity (ampacity), allowing for smaller cable sizes for the same load.
Is FG16R16 cable suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. It is designed for indoor, outdoor, and wet environments. The outer sheath resists moisture and weather. It can also be installed in pipes, trunking, or overhead trays. For direct burial, it is generally permitted if protected from mechanical damage, but check local regulations.
